The Documentary Gaze- A Series of Latin American Documentary Shorts

Join the Office of Spanish and Latino Studies for The Documentary Gaze- A Series of Latin American Documentary Shorts. The presentation and Q&A will be in English and all films will be shown with English subtitles.

Wanchaq – Pacha Tinku (Huanchac, a Full Belly)
2007, 12 mins, documentary, Producer, Scriptwriter and original idea. Romulo and his family live in Huanchac, a small village located at 3,100 meters above sea level, 15 minutes from the capital city of the Ancash Region in Peru. They raise guinea pigs and pigs to generate income and sources of food while they also run a small restaurant in the city’s market. Nearby lives Rosalinda, she works as a maid in a mining town located next to Huanchac. Every morning she walks to work and passes next to big rocks that western tourists climb up and down.

Yaku Patsa (World of Water)
2010, 34 mins, Documentary, Director. Drifting upstream from 2,000 meters above sea level to 5,000 meters, ‘World of Water’ encounters people and their culture, stories, histories and beliefs against the impossibly lush and breath-taking landscapes of southern Conchucos, Peru. A ritual, a custom, a myth and a reality.

2016, 4 mins, Video Art, Camera and Edition. The Puya Raimondi is an endangered native plant species from the Andes that grows above 4,000 meters. After 80 years, it flourishes for the first and last time.

El retorno de la mujer jaguar (The Return of the Jaguar Woman)
2021, 15 mins, Oral Narration and Screendance Video, Camera and Edition.A woman in an ancient temple in the center of the Peruvian Andes one night dreams how she can travel to the stars. The next evening she participates in a ritual in the circular plaza.
