Javier Zamora was born in El Salvador in 1990. His parents' migration to the US was caused by the U.S.-funded Salvadoran Civil War (1980-1992). In 1999, as a child, Javier migrated across Mexico and the Sonoran Desert to be reunited with his parents. After a "coyote" abandoned his group in Oaxaca, Javier made it to Arizona with the aid of other migrants. His book of poetry, entitled Unaccompanied (2017), explores how immigration and the war impacted his family.
