Masculinity, White Supremacy, and Religion at the US Capitol Insurrection

“Rioting for Resurrection” takes a hard look at the role that religion played in this dark chapter of US history, giving special attention to the links between white supremacy, Christian nationalism, and distinctly Evangelical notions of masculinity.

  • Dr. Kristin Kobes Du Mez – Professor of History and Gender Studies at Calvin University and author of Jesus and John Wayne (2020).
  • Dr. Stephen C. Finley – Associate Professor of Religious Studies and African-American Studies at Louisiana State University and co-editor of The Religion of White Rage (2020).
  • Dr. Bradley Onishi – Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Skidmore College, author of New York Times op-ed “Trump’s New Civil Religion” (2021) and host of the podcast Straight White American Jesus.
  • Dr. John Soboslai, Religion Department, will be the Moderator.
